2016 Community Health Collaborators Excel in Physical Activity and School Foodservice Expertise

During a staff conference in San Diego this December, Dairy Council of CA staff recognized two individuals with the 2016 Community Health Collaborator Awards for their ongoing expertise and partnerships within the arenas of physical activity and school foodservice.

2017 Out-of-School Time Nutrition Summits |

Register for the Northern California event being held in Richmond on January 19, or the Southern California summit in Upland on January 24. Both events are sponsored by the California Summer Meal Coalition.
USDA's out-of-school time nutrition programs, including summer meals, provide a unique opportunity for community leaders to work collaboratively to support the health and development of local youth.

Grant Funds and Training Available for School Breakfast and Summer Foodservice Programs |

In January 2017, the California Department of Education kicks off competitive grant applications for new school breakfast funds as well as the Summer Food Service Program.
To help school districts put forward successful grant applications, California Food Policy Advocates is hosting a webinar on February 9. This webinar is designed to help interested schools: - Get suggestions about writing successful grant applications
- Learn about the challenges and successes of implementing after-the-bell breakfast grant funds
- Ask questions and interact directly with the staff who will review and score the grant applications

Workshops Help Refresh Local School Wellness Policies |

Join the California Local School Wellness Policy Collaborative for a series of workshops across California to breathe new life into your Local School Wellness Policy.
These all-day sessions will be held from February to April and will cover the Final Rule, implementation plans and Local Control and Accountability Plan tools for monitoring and implementation. Register today to attend one of the six sessions.

Few nutrition interventions for kindergarten classes have been evaluated, and none have been tested for program effectiveness, implementation and dissemination until the RE-AIM analysis of Building a Healthy Me! by Dairy Council of CA.
Results of the classroom evaluation published January 2017 in the peer-reviewed Journal of School Health describe the changes in kindergarten students' knowledge and improvements in student and parent food behaviors after completing Building a Healthy Me! classroom nutrition education program. |
