Start Planning for Summer Meals
Schools are a trusted source of nutrition and activity information for families, so before school ends, be sure to tell parents that summer meals are available for all kids 18 and under—no paperwork, no questions, no cost.
Having children home over summer vacation can add as much as $300 to a family's monthly food bill. Many families that rely on free or reduced meals at school during the year miss out on USDA's Summer Food Service Program while school is out.
Many meals are served at libraries, pools or parks, locations that offer free activities along with a healthy meal. Activities at meal sites keep kids healthy and engaged over the summer months so they're ready to learn when school starts again in the fall. |
